Description
Easy no-knead Dutch oven bread with a crisp crust and fluffy crumb. Just mix, rise, and bake — no kneading or fancy tools needed.
Ingredients
- 3 ¼ cups all-purpose flour or bread flour, plus more for dusting
- 1 ½ teaspoons fine sea salt
- 2 ¼ teaspoons instant or active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1 ½ cups warm water (about 100°F)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and yeast.
- Pour in warm water and stir with a wooden spoon or spatula until a sticky, shaggy dough forms.
- Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let rise in a warm spot for 2 to 3 hours, until doubled in size and bubbly.
- Lightly flour a piece of parchment paper.
- Use a spatula to scrape the dough onto the parchment. Gently fold the edges toward the center to form a rough ball.
- Dust lightly with flour and let rest for 15 to 20 minutes while the oven preheats.
- Place a 5- or 6-quart Dutch oven (with lid) in your oven and preheat to 450°F for 30 minutes.
- Carefully remove the hot Dutch oven and place the parchment paper with the dough inside.
- Cover with the lid and bake for 35 minutes.
- Remove the lid and bake another 8 to 10 minutes until the crust is deeply golden and crisp.
- Lift the bread out using the parchment and let cool on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes before slicing.
Notes
- For extra flavor, mix in 1 tablespoon chopped herbs or ¼ cup grated parmesan before the first rise.
