A delicious and savory homemade Thanksgiving stuffing recipe, just like Grandma used to make. This classic dish is perfect for your holiday table.
Ingredients
- 10 cups cubed bread (sourdough or French)
- 1 large onion, finely diced
- 2 cups celery, finely chopped
- 2 tbsp fresh sage, finely chopped
- 2 tbsp fresh thyme, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp fresh rosemary, finely chopped
- 4 cups low-sodium broth (chicken or vegetable)
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Cube the bread and let it dry overnight or toast lightly. Finely chop the onion, celery, and fresh herbs.
- Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and celery. Cook until tender, about 5-7 minutes. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
- Place bread cubes in a large mixing bowl. Add the sautéed vegetables. Stir in the chopped herbs. Season with additional salt and pepper. Gradually add warm broth, stirring until the mixture is evenly moistened.
- Transfer the stuffing to a greased baking dish. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 15 minutes, until the top is golden brown and crisp.
- Let the stuffing cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Adjust broth for desired consistency.
- Add cooked chicken sausage or diced apples for extra flavor.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
