Description
This cheesy baked taco casserole uses tortillas, seasoned ground beef, and cheese. It is an easy and filling dinner perfect for busy nights.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 tablespoon taco seasoning
- ½ cup water
- 4 eight inch flour tortillas
- ¾ cup smooth cheese sauce
- 2 cups shredded Mexican style cheese
- ½ cup sour cream (for serving)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a nine inch square baking dish.
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook for 7 to 8 minutes, breaking it up, until fully browned.
- Sprinkle in the taco seasoning and pour in the water. Simmer for 2 to 3 minutes until the mixture thickens and coats the meat evenly.
- Stir the cheese sauce into the beef until smooth. Remove from heat.
- Place one tortilla in the bottom of the baking dish, trimming to fit if needed. Spread one quarter of the beef mixture over the tortilla and sprinkle with one quarter of the shredded cheese.
- Repeat the layering process three more times, finishing with cheese on top.
- Bake uncovered for 22 to 25 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbling and the edges are lightly golden.
- Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes, then slice and serve with sour cream.
Notes
- Ground beef is fully cooked when it reaches an internal temperature of 160°F.
- Letting the casserole rest before slicing helps the layers hold together cleanly.
