Description
Sweet Air Fryer Churro Bites offer a lighter way to enjoy the classic fried treat. You make a simple choux-style dough, pipe small bites, cook them in the air fryer until golden, and toss them in cinnamon sugar. This recipe makes a perfect beginner-friendly dessert.
Ingredients
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla essence
- 1 cup plain flour
- 1/3 cup + 1 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 cup water
- 2 tbsp sugar (for dough)
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp cinnamon powder (for coating)
- 1 cup white sugar (for coating)
Instructions
- Combine water, butter, salt, and 2 tbsp sugar in a pan. Bring to a boil over high heat.
- Reduce heat, gradually add flour, stirring constantly until a smooth dough forms. Remove from heat.
- Transfer dough to a bowl and cool for 4-5 minutes.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract to the slightly cooled dough. Mix thoroughly with an electric hand mixer until smooth.
- Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Spray the basket.
- Transfer dough to a piping bag. Pipe bite-sized churros into the basket, avoiding overcrowding.
- Lightly brush the tops of the churros with butter.
- Air fry for 10-12 minutes until golden brown. Cook in batches if necessary.
- Mix the coating sugar and cinnamon powder in a shallow bowl.
- Immediately transfer the hot churros to the cinnamon sugar mixture. Toss gently to coat evenly.
- Serve the churro bites warm with your favorite dips.
Notes
- If the cinnamon sugar does not stick, brush churros lightly with melted butter or spray with water before rolling.
- You can drop the dough by the spoonful instead of piping for an easier shape.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Reheat in the air fryer for 1-2 minutes at 350°F and re-coat if desired.
- The dough can be made ahead and stored for up to 24 hours; let it stand at room temperature for 30 minutes before piping.
