Description

Soft strawberry cream cheese swirl buns baked until fluffy and golden. This is an easy homemade breakfast bun with bakery style flavor.


Ingredients

  • Dough: 3 cups all purpose flour
  • Dough: ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • Dough: 2¼ teaspoons instant yeast
  • Dough: ¾ teaspoon salt
  • Dough: ¾ cup warm whole milk
  • Dough: ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • Dough: 1 large egg
  • Cream Cheese Filling: 6 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • Cream Cheese Filling: ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • Cream Cheese Filling: 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • Strawberry Filling: 1½ cups chopped fresh strawberries
  • Strawberry Filling: 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • Strawberry Filling: 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • Glaze: 1 cup powdered sugar
  • Glaze: 2 tablespoons milk


Instructions

  1. Mix the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt in a large bowl.
  2. Stir in the warm milk, melted butter, and egg until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead for 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Cover the dough and let it rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  5. Mix the cream cheese and sugar until smooth in a small bowl.
  6. Stir together the strawberries, sugar, and cornstarch in another bowl.
  7. Roll the dough into a 14 by 10 inch rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
  8. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the dough.
  9. Scatter the strawberry mixture on top of the cream cheese.
  10. Roll the dough tightly from the long side and slice into 9 equal buns.
  11. Place buns in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes.
  12. Bake at 350°F for 25 to 28 minutes until lightly golden and set in the center.
  13. Whisk the powdered sugar and milk, then drizzle over warm buns before serving.

  • Use ripe but firm strawberries so the filling stays thick and does not leak during baking.
