Description

This slow cooker apple butter is thick, smooth, and deeply spiced. Make this easy homemade recipe for spreading, gifting, or baking all season.


Ingredients

  • 6 pounds apples peeled, cored, and thickly sliced
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract


Instructions

  1. Add the sliced apples to a 6 quart slow cooker, spreading them evenly.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt.
  3. Sprinkle the sugar mixture over the apples and toss well to coat.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours, stirring once or twice, until the apples are very soft and darkened.
  5. Remove the lid and continue cooking on low for 2 more hours, stirring occasionally, until thick and reduced.
  6. Turn off the slow cooker and let the mixture cool slightly.
  7. Use an immersion blender to puree until completely smooth.
  8. Stir in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
  9. Spoon into clean jars and let cool completely before covering.
