Description
This slow cooker apple butter is thick, smooth, and deeply spiced. Make this easy homemade recipe for spreading, gifting, or baking all season.
Ingredients
- 6 pounds apples peeled, cored, and thickly sliced
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Add the sliced apples to a 6 quart slow cooker, spreading them evenly.
- In a bowl, whisk together granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt.
- Sprinkle the sugar mixture over the apples and toss well to coat.
- Cover and cook on low for 8 hours, stirring once or twice, until the apples are very soft and darkened.
- Remove the lid and continue cooking on low for 2 more hours, stirring occasionally, until thick and reduced.
- Turn off the slow cooker and let the mixture cool slightly.
- Use an immersion blender to puree until completely smooth.
- Stir in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
- Spoon into clean jars and let cool completely before covering.
