- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley or chives (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Cook sausage in a skillet over medium heat, breaking it apart until browned. Remove from heat and drain excess fat.
- Whisk eggs, milk, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a large bowl until combined.
- Add cubed bread, cooked sausage, diced onion, bell pepper, and 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar to the egg mixture. Stir to combine everything.
- Pour the mixture evenly into your prepared baking dish.
- Sprinkle the remaining cheddar cheese on top.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes until the casserole sets and the top browns.
- Let the casserole cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with parsley or chives if you like.
- Serve the casserole warm.
Notes
- Use day-old bread to absorb the egg mixture better.
- Avoid overfilling the baking dish for even cooking.
- Let the casserole rest before serving to set the slices.
- You can prepare the casserole the night before and refrigerate it; bake it fresh in the morning.
- Use a sharp knife for clean slices.
