Description
This easy saltine cracker candy recipe, also known as candy crack or toffee bark, is a no-bake dessert perfect for beginners. It features a sweet caramel coating on saltine crackers topped with melted chocolate.
Ingredients
- 40 saltine crackers (1 package)
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 cups chocolate chips (about 1 package)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F. Line a 9×13 baking sheet with parchment paper or foil. Spray the paper and sides of the pan with non-stick cooking spray.
- Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Break crackers in half if needed to fill the entire space.
- Melt the butter in a small pot over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally.
- Add the brown sugar to the melted butter and stir. Bring the mixture to a boil and cook for 3 minutes without stirring, unless necessary to prevent burning.
- Remove the pot from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Pour the caramel sauce evenly over the crackers using a spatula.
- Bake the sheet in the oven for 5-7 minutes. Remove and let cool for 1-2 minutes.
- Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the warm crackers. Return the pan to the oven for 30-60 seconds, or until the chocolate is melted.
- Remove from the oven and use a spatula to spread the melted chocolate over the entire baking sheet.
- Let the candy cool for 20 minutes, then place the baking sheet in the refrigerator to chill for 3-4 hours.
- Once chilled, carefully remove the cracker candy from the baking sheet and parchment paper. Slice into squares or break into pieces.
Notes
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature or in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
- The candy can be frozen in an airtight container for up to 4 months. Note that the cracker base may become mushy after freezing. It is recommended to test a small batch first.
