Ingredients
- ½ cup butter
- 6 oz semisweet or bittersweet chocolate, chopped
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1½ cups sugar
- 4 large eggs (room temperature)
- 1¼ cups pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie mix)
- ¼ cup vegetable oil
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
- ⅓ cup chocolate chips (optional, for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 °F. Line a 9×9″ baking pan with foil or parchment; spray bottom with non-stick oil.
- Melt butter and chopped chocolate together in a heavy pot over low heat; remove from heat when smooth.
- Beat sugar and eggs together with an electric mixer until very well combined. Stir in flour, baking powder, and salt—do not overmix.
- Divide the mixture evenly into two bowls. In one bowl, stir in the melted chocolate mixture. In the other, mix in pumpkin puree, vegetable oil, cinnamon, and pumpkin pie spice.
- Layer the chocolate mixture and the pumpkin mixture in the prepared pan, then use a knife to swirl them together. Sprinkle chocolate chips on top, if using.
- Bake for approximately 40–45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out almost clean.
- Cool on a wire rack before serving.
