Description
Flaky puff pastry appetizers filled with tender beef, mushrooms, and savory herbs for an elegant party snack that is simple to make at home.
Ingredients
- 1 pound beef sirloin steak cut into small cubes
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 cup finely chopped mushrooms
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 sheet puff pastry thawed
- 1 egg beaten
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the beef cubes and cook for 2 to 3 minutes until browned on all sides. Remove from the skillet and let cool slightly.
- In the same skillet, cook the mushrooms for 5 minutes until the moisture evaporates. Stir in the garlic, thyme, salt, and black pepper and cook for 1 minute more.
- Roll out the puff pastry slightly and cut into 16 equal squares.
- Place a spoonful of the mushroom mixture and a piece of beef in the center of each pastry square.
- Fold the pastry over the filling and press the edges with a fork to seal.
- Arrange the bites on the prepared baking sheet and brush with beaten egg.
- Bake for 18 to 22 minutes until golden brown and puffed.
- Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- For tender beef bites, avoid overcooking the steak before baking as it will continue cooking in the oven. Beef should reach an internal temperature of 145°F followed by a 3-minute rest.
