Description

Flaky puff pastry appetizers filled with tender beef, mushrooms, and savory herbs for an elegant party snack that is simple to make at home.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound beef sirloin steak cut into small cubes
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup finely chopped mushrooms
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 sheet puff pastry thawed
  • 1 egg beaten


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the beef cubes and cook for 2 to 3 minutes until browned on all sides. Remove from the skillet and let cool slightly.
  3. In the same skillet, cook the mushrooms for 5 minutes until the moisture evaporates. Stir in the garlic, thyme, salt, and black pepper and cook for 1 minute more.
  4. Roll out the puff pastry slightly and cut into 16 equal squares.
  5. Place a spoonful of the mushroom mixture and a piece of beef in the center of each pastry square.
  6. Fold the pastry over the filling and press the edges with a fork to seal.
  7. Arrange the bites on the prepared baking sheet and brush with beaten egg.
  8. Bake for 18 to 22 minutes until golden brown and puffed.
  9. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For tender beef bites, avoid overcooking the steak before baking as it will continue cooking in the oven. Beef should reach an internal temperature of 145°F followed by a 3-minute rest.
