Ingredients
- 4 slices milk bread about 3 4 inch thick
- 3 tablespoons whole milk
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter softened
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 2 teaspoon vanilla free flavoring
- 1 4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Place the bread slices on a shallow plate in a single layer.
- In a small bowl whisk the milk egg sugar salt and vanilla free flavoring until smooth.
- Spoon the mixture evenly over both sides of each slice allowing it to absorb for 30 seconds per side.
- Heat a nonstick skillet over medium low heat.
- Spread the butter evenly in the skillet.
- Add the soaked bread slices and cook for 2 to 3 minutes per side until golden and puffed.
- Flip gently and continue cooking until the centers feel soft but set.
- Remove from heat and serve warm.
Notes
- This recipe works best with thick cut bread like milk bread.
- Do not let the bread soak longer than 30 seconds per side or it may become too soggy.
