Description
This homemade salsa verde is bright, tangy, and full of fresh flavor. It is a versatile sauce made easily with roasted tomatillos and green chiles.
Ingredients
- 1 pound tomatillos husked and rinsed
- 1 small white onion quartered
- 2 cloves garlic peeled
- 1 to 2 jalapeños stemmed
- 1/2 cup fresh cilantro leaves
- 2 tablespoons lime juice
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Place the tomatillos, onion, garlic, and jalapeños on the baking sheet. Spread them into a single layer.
- Roast for 18 to 22 minutes until the tomatillos soften and lightly blister.
- Remove from the oven. Let the vegetables cool for 5 minutes.
- Transfer the roasted vegetables to a blender.
- Add the cilantro, lime juice, salt, and cumin.
- Blend until smooth or slightly chunky, based on your preference.
- Taste the salsa. Adjust salt if needed.
- Transfer to a serving bowl or airtight container.
Notes
- Salsa thickens slightly after chilling. Stir before serving.
