Description
Easy homemade churros that are crispy outside, soft inside, served with rich chocolate sauce for a dessert ready in 30 minutes.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 1/2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- vegetable oil for frying
- 3 1/2 ounces dark chocolate, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
Instructions
- Stir together the granulated sugar and cinnamon for the coating in a shallow bowl. Set aside.
- Combine the water, sugar, salt, and vegetable oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and immediately stir in the flour until a smooth dough forms and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
- Transfer the dough to a sturdy pastry bag fitted with a large star tip.
- Heat 3 inches of vegetable oil in a heavy pot to 375 degrees F. Line a plate with paper towels.
- Pipe 4 inch strips of dough directly into the hot oil, cutting the ends with scissors. Fry 2 to 3 churros at a time for 2 to 3 minutes per side or until deep golden brown and cooked through.
- Transfer the churros to the paper towel lined plate for 1 minute, then roll them in the cinnamon sugar coating while still warm.
- Place the chopped dark chocolate in a heat safe bowl.
- Heat the heavy cream in a small saucepan until hot but not boiling. Pour it over the chocolate and let it sit for 1 minute. Stir until smooth and glossy.
- Serve the warm churros immediately with the chocolate sauce for dipping.
Notes
- Use a sturdy piping bag for the churro dough because the thick mixture can burst thin plastic bags while piping.
