Description
Wind down with this cozy golden turmeric latte, a dairy-free anti-inflammatory sleep drink made in 10 minutes with pantry spices and warm milk. It supports relaxation and feels like a cozy hug in a mug.
Ingredients
- 2 cups unsweetened almond milk or oat milk
- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 pinch ground ginger
- 1 pinch ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil
- 1–2 tablespoons pure maple syrup or honey, to taste
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1–2 tablespoons extra milk for frothing (optional)
- 1 pinch ground cinnamon for dusting (optional)
- 1 pinch ground turmeric for color (optional)
Instructions
- Place the almond milk in a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Warm until steaming, about 3–5 minutes, but do not boil.
- Whisk in the turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, and black pepper until the milk is evenly golden with no clumps.
- Stir in the coconut oil, maple syrup or honey, and vanilla. Whisk until the coconut oil melts and the drink is smooth.
- Continue heating for 2–3 minutes, whisking often, until the latte steams and small bubbles form around the edges.
- Taste the latte. Add more maple syrup or honey if you want it sweeter.
- If making foam, warm the extra milk separately for 15–20 seconds in the microwave, then whisk or shake vigorously until frothy.
- Pour the latte into 2 mugs. Spoon the foam over the top. Dust lightly with cinnamon and a tiny pinch of turmeric.
- Let the latte cool slightly before sipping. Enjoy it slowly as part of your nighttime routine.
Notes
- Whisk often to keep the spices suspended and prevent sinking.
- Keep the heat low; overheating can cause a skin to form or the sweetener to scorch.
- Black pepper helps your body use turmeric more effectively.
- Store leftover latte in an airtight jar in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
- Reheat gently on the stovetop or in the microwave in short bursts. Only reheat once.
