Description

Light and fluffy toast bread made on the stovetop with milk and butter for a soft tender center and gentle golden finish. This bread is softly pan warmed instead of aggressively toasted. A quick milk soak keeps the inside tender while the outside turns lightly golden.

Ingredients

  • 4 slices sandwich bread about 1/2 inch thick
  • 3 tablespoons whole milk
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Arrange the bread slices on a plate in a single layer.
  2. Brush the milk evenly over both sides of each slice.
  3. Sprinkle the sugar and salt lightly over the bread.
  4. Heat a nonstick skillet over medium low heat.
  5. Add the butter and swirl to coat the skillet evenly.
  6. Place the bread slices in the skillet in a single layer.
  7. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes until the bottoms are lightly golden.
  8. Flip gently and cook for 2 minutes until warmed through and fluffy.
  9. Remove from the skillet and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use thick cut sandwich bread for the best fluffy texture.
  • Medium low heat prevents the bread from burning before it warms through.
