Description
These oven baked tacos are crispy, cheesy, and filled with seasoned ground beef. A simple family dinner that comes together fast in the oven.
Ingredients
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small yellow onion finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup water
- 12 hard taco shells
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup shredded lettuce (optional topping)
- 1 cup diced tomatoes (optional topping)
- 1/2 cup sour cream (optional topping)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F and arrange the taco shells standing upright in a 9 by 13 inch baking dish.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and cook for 3 minutes until softened.
- Add the ground beef and garlic and cook for 8 to 10 minutes, breaking up the meat, until fully browned and no pink remains. Ground beef is safe to eat when it reaches an internal temperature of 160°F.
- Stir in the chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, black pepper, and water. Simmer for 3 to 4 minutes until slightly thickened.
- Spoon the seasoned beef evenly into each taco shell.
- Combine the cheddar and mozzarella cheeses, then sprinkle evenly over the filled tacos.
- Bake uncovered for 10 to 12 minutes until the cheese is melted and the shells are crisp.
- Remove from the oven and let rest for 2 minutes before serving.
- Top with lettuce, tomatoes, and sour cream if desired.
