Description

These oven baked tacos are crispy, cheesy, and filled with seasoned ground beef. A simple family dinner that comes together fast in the oven.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small yellow onion finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 12 hard taco shells
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce (optional topping)
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes (optional topping)
  • 1/2 cup sour cream (optional topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F and arrange the taco shells standing upright in a 9 by 13 inch baking dish.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and cook for 3 minutes until softened.
  3. Add the ground beef and garlic and cook for 8 to 10 minutes, breaking up the meat, until fully browned and no pink remains. Ground beef is safe to eat when it reaches an internal temperature of 160°F.
  4. Stir in the chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, black pepper, and water. Simmer for 3 to 4 minutes until slightly thickened.
  5. Spoon the seasoned beef evenly into each taco shell.
  6. Combine the cheddar and mozzarella cheeses, then sprinkle evenly over the filled tacos.
  7. Bake uncovered for 10 to 12 minutes until the cheese is melted and the shells are crisp.
  8. Remove from the oven and let rest for 2 minutes before serving.
  9. Top with lettuce, tomatoes, and sour cream if desired.
