Description
This easy homemade blueberry sauce is thick, glossy, and ready in minutes. It is a perfect topping for cheesecake, pancakes, yogurt, and other desserts.
Ingredients
- 2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons cold water
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon lemon zest
Instructions
- Add the blueberries, water, sugar, and lemon juice to a medium saucepan over medium heat.
- Stir frequently and bring the mixture to a gentle boil.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and cold water until smooth.
- Slowly stir the cornstarch mixture into the blueberries. Avoid crushing the fruit.
- Reduce the heat to a simmer. Cook for about 5 minutes, stirring gently, until the sauce thickens and coats the back of a spoon.
- Remove from the heat. Stir in the vanilla extract and lemon zest.
- Cool slightly before serving or refrigerate until you use it.
