Description
Easy homemade artisan bread with a golden crisp crust and soft airy center, made with minimal effort.
Ingredients
- 3 1/4 cups all purpose flour plus extra for dusting
- 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
- 1 packet active dry yeast 2 1/4 teaspoons
- 1 1/2 cups warm water about 100 degrees F
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and yeast.
- Pour in warm water and stir with a spoon or spatula until a shaggy sticky dough forms and no dry flour remains.
- Cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel. Let the dough rise at room temperature for 2 to 3 hours until doubled in size and bubbly on the surface.
- About 30 minutes before baking, place a Dutch oven with its lid in the oven and preheat to 450 degrees F.
- Turn the dough out onto a generously floured piece of parchment paper. With floured hands, gently fold the edges of the dough toward the center 4 to 6 times to form a rough round loaf. Do not knead.
- Carefully remove the hot Dutch oven from the oven. Using the parchment paper as handles, lower the dough into the pot. Cover immediately with the lid.
- Bake covered for 35 minutes. Remove the lid and bake an additional 10 to 12 minutes until the crust is deep golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
- Transfer the bread to a wire rack and cool for at least 20 minutes before slicing.
Notes
- Store at room temperature in a paper bag or wrapped in a clean kitchen towel for up to 3 days.
