Description
These 3-ingredient candied bacon crackers offer a perfect balance of sweet, salty, and savory flavors. Buttery crackers support smoky beef bacon candied with brown sugar while baking, creating an easy, high-reward party snack.
Ingredients
- 1 sleeve rectangular buttery crackers (about 35-40 crackers)
- 12 oz beef bacon, thinly sliced
- ¾ cup light brown sugar, packed
- ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- ½ teaspoon cracked black pepper (optional)
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C).
- Line a large rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil. Place a wire cooling rack securely on top of the foil.
- Cut the beef bacon slices crosswise into thirds or fourths to create small pieces.
- Arrange the crackers in a single layer across the wire rack, spacing them slightly apart.
- Place one piece of cut beef bacon onto the center of each cracker.
- Spoon about 1 teaspoon of brown sugar over each piece of bacon, spreading it slightly to cover the meat.
- If you use seasonings, sprinkle them over the brown sugar layer now.
- Bake for 45-60 minutes, until the brown sugar is a glaze and the bacon is crispy and dark golden.
- Remove the pan from the oven. Let the crackers cool on the rack for 10-15 minutes until the topping hardens.
- Serve once cooled and crisp.
Notes
- Use a wire rack; direct contact with foil makes crackers soggy.
- Use thin-cut bacon for best crisping results.
- Do not rush the cooling process; the sugar shell hardens as it cools, creating crispness.
- Check crackers starting at 40 minutes to prevent sugar burning.
- Store cooled crackers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
