Ingredients
- 2 cups warm water
- 2/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 tablespoons active dry yeast
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 6 cups bread flour, divided
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, stir together the warm water and sugar until dissolved. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes until foamy.
- Add the salt, vegetable oil, and 3 cups of bread flour. Stir until smooth.
- Gradually mix in the remaining bread flour until a soft dough forms.
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide it evenly into 2 portions. Shape each portion into a loaf.
- Place the dough into 2 greased 9 x 5 inch loaf pans. Cover loosely and let rise for 30 to 40 minutes until the dough rises about 1 inch above the pans.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Bake for 28 to 32 minutes until golden brown and the loaves sound hollow when tapped.
- Remove the bread from the pans and cool on a wire rack before slicing.
