Description

Make crispy air fryer egg and cheese toast in under 10 minutes. This recipe is easy, kid-friendly, and perfect for busy mornings, letting you choose between a runny or set yolk.

Ingredients

  • 2 slices white or wholegrain sandwich bread
  • 2 large eggs
  • 6 tablespoons shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • Pinch salt and pepper
  • Sesame seeds for topping, optional
  • Hot sauce or syrup for serving, optional

Instructions

  1. Place bread slices in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Press the center of each slice with the back of a spoon to make a shallow well.
  2. Brush the surface and edges of each slice with olive oil so the toast crisps evenly.
  3. Crack one egg into each well carefully so the white stays contained. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper.
  4. Sprinkle 3 tablespoons mozzarella over each slice, letting some fall on the edges for crispy cheese bits.
  5. Air fry at 350°F for 7 minutes for a runny yolk; cook up to 10 minutes for a more set yolk. Start checking at 5 minutes since air fryers vary.
  6. The toast is done when edges are golden, cheese is melted and bubbly, whites are set, and yolk is at your preferred doneness.
  7. Finish with sesame seeds, and serve hot with a few dashes of hot sauce or a drizzle of syrup if you like.
  8. For food safety, cook eggs and any added chicken or meats to an internal temperature of 165°F 74°C.

Notes

  • Press a deep enough well so the egg sits neatly and does not run off the bread.
  • Lightly oil the bread edges for maximum crisp without drying.
  • Start checking doneness at minute 5; air fryer models cook at different speeds.
  • For ultra-melty tops, add half the cheese before cooking and the rest in the last 2 minutes.
  • Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 1 day; texture is best fresh.
  • Reheat in the air fryer at 320°F for 2–3 minutes until warmed and edges re-crisp; avoid microwaving to keep toast crisp.
  • Substitutions: Use cheddar, Monterey Jack, or a cheese blend instead of mozzarella. Swap bread types or add cooked turkey, spinach, or mushrooms.
