Description
Crispy air fryer calzones filled with seasoned beef, mozzarella, and marinara. A quick family friendly dinner.
Ingredients
- 1 pound refrigerated pizza dough
- 1 half pound lean ground beef
- 1 half teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 quarter teaspoon black pepper
- 1 half teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 half teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 half cup marinara sauce
- 1 and one half cups shredded low moisture mozzarella cheese
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- Cook the ground beef with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and dried oregano in a skillet over medium heat for 6 to 8 minutes until browned and fully cooked. The beef must reach an internal temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Divide the pizza dough into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a circle about 6 to 7 inches wide on a lightly floured surface.
- Spread 2 tablespoons of marinara sauce over one half of each dough circle, leaving a half inch border around the edge.
- Spoon a quarter of the cooked beef over the sauce, then top with about one third cup shredded mozzarella.
- Fold the clean half of the dough over the filling to create a half moon shape. Press the edges firmly together, then crimp with a fork to seal.
- Preheat the air fryer to 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 3 minutes. Lightly brush the tops of the calzones with olive oil.
- Place the calzones in the air fryer basket in a single layer without touching. Cook in batches if necessary.
- Air fry at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 8 to 10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crisp on both sides.
- Let rest for 3 to 5 minutes before slicing to allow the filling to set slightly. Serve warm.
Notes
- Leave the edges free of sauce so the calzones seal tightly and do not leak during cooking.
