  • ¾ cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • ¼ teaspoon chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • Whole wheat or brioche sandwich buns


Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add ground turkey and cook for 6 to 8 minutes, breaking it apart with a spatula until browned.
  3. Add onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables soften.
  4. Drain any excess liquid or fat.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, soy sauce, chili powder, paprika, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  6. Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet. Stir well to combine and reduce heat to low.
  7. Simmer uncovered for 6 to 8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
  8. Spoon the turkey mixture onto warm buns and serve immediately.
