- ¾ cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- ¼ teaspoon chili powder
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- Whole wheat or brioche sandwich buns
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add ground turkey and cook for 6 to 8 minutes, breaking it apart with a spatula until browned.
- Add onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables soften.
- Drain any excess liquid or fat.
- In a small bowl, whisk together tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, soy sauce, chili powder, paprika, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet. Stir well to combine and reduce heat to low.
- Simmer uncovered for 6 to 8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
- Spoon the turkey mixture onto warm buns and serve immediately.
