Description

These cream cheese sugar cookies are soft, tender, and hold their shape well for cut outs. The cream cheese keeps them soft for days after baking.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 8 ounces full fat cream cheese softened
  • 1½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract
  • 3½ cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter softened
  • ¼ teaspoon almond extract
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons milk


Instructions

  1. Beat the butter and cream cheese in a large bowl until smooth, about 2 minutes.
  2. Add the sugar, egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract; mix until combined.
  3. Add the flour and baking powder; mix just until a soft dough forms.
  4. Shape the dough into a flat disc, wrap it, and refrigerate for 1 hour.
  5. Preheat the oven to 375°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  6. Roll the dough on a lightly floured surface to about ¼ inch thickness and cut shapes.
  7. Place cookies on the baking sheets and bake 8 to 10 minutes until set but not browned.
  8. Cool the cookies on the pan for 5 minutes, then move them to a rack to cool completely.
  9. Mix the powdered sugar, butter, almond extract, and milk until smooth for the frosting.
  10. Frost the cooled cookies and let the icing set before you store them.
