Perfectly Crispy Sweet Heat Cornbread Fries are a unique twist on traditional cornbread, combining sweetness and heat for a delightful snack or side dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup milk (or plant-based milk)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup melted coconut oil (or vegetable oil)
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 cup chopped jalapeños
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • Optional: Dipping sauce (like honey mustard or spicy ranch)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cornmeal, all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix together the milk, eggs, honey, and melted coconut oil.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl with the dry ingredients and gently stir until just combined.
  5. Fold in the chopped jalapeños, cayenne pepper, and smoked paprika.
  6. Spread the batter onto a prepared baking sheet, smoothing it out into an even layer about 1/2 inch thick.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Once cooled slightly, cut the cornbread into fry-shaped pieces.
  9. For extra crispiness, return the cut fries to the oven for an additional 10 minutes.
  10. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce and garnish with fresh cilantro.

  • Measure ingredients accurately for best results.
  • Use medium-ground cornmeal for optimal texture.
