Description

Juicy grilled Greek chicken gyros wrapped in warm pita with creamy tzatziki and fresh vegetables. Simple, authentic, and ready quickly.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, sliced into strips
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt (whole milk preferred)
  • ½ cucumber, grated and drained
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 4 pieces of warm pita bread
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup sliced tomatoes
  • ½ cup thinly sliced red onion
  • ½ cup crumbled feta cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Whisk together olive oil, garlic, lemon juice, oregano, paprika, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Add chicken strips, toss to coat, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Grill chicken for 5–6 minutes per side until cooked through, reaching an internal temperature of 165°F. Rest chicken for 5 minutes.
  3. Combine yogurt, grated cucumber, garlic, lemon juice, dill, and salt in a small bowl. Stir and chill.
  4. Heat pita bread in a dry skillet or oven until soft.
  5. Place pita on a surface. Add chicken strips, drizzle tzatziki sauce, and top with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and feta if you are using it.
  6. Roll the pita around the fillings and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Marinate the chicken longer for deeper flavor.
  • Store leftover components separately and refrigerate for up to 3 days.
