Description
This homemade pie crust is flaky, tender, and easy to roll. A classic grandma style pie crust recipe perfect for sweet or savory pies. Cold fat and gentle mixing create a tender, flaky dough.
Ingredients
- 3 cups all purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ cup cold unsalted butter cubed
- ½ cup vegetable shortening cold
- ½ cup ice cold water
- 1 tablespoon white vinegar
Instructions
- Add the flour and salt to a large mixing bowl and whisk to combine.
- Add the cold butter and shortening and cut them into the flour using a pastry cutter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- In a small cup, stir together the ice cold water and vinegar.
- Pour the liquid into the flour mixture and gently stir just until the dough comes together.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and press together gently without overworking.
- Divide the dough into two equal discs and wrap tightly. Chill 30 minutes if time allows.
- Roll one disc into a circle about 1 inch larger than a 9 inch pie pan and transfer to the pan.
- Fill and top as desired, then bake according to your pie recipe instructions.
