Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in vanilla extract and lemon zest.
  4. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, alternating with buttermilk, starting and ending with dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  5. Gently fold in the blueberries and nuts, if using.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top. Bake for 55-60 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
  7. While the loaf is baking, prepare the lemon glaze by whisking together powdered sugar and lemon juice until smooth.
